Shelby Werner began sculpting in 2002 following a career on Wall Street investing in distressed and bankrupt securities. She lives and works in Pawling, NY and Palm Beach, Florida.

She has studied at the National Academy of Fine Art and The Art Students League, both in New York City,  and  at the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach, Florida.  She works in both clay and wax.  Each piece takes an average of eight weeks to be sculpted.  It is then cast in plaster, fired in a kiln or cast in bronze.  It is a highly skilled and labor-intensive process.  Whatever the medium, the finish is as important and Shelby is proud of doing her own patination in oils, acrylics and metallic powders.  Often, the patina on a piece of sculpture can be as important as the color of paint on a canvas.

Her work includes traditional figurative sculpture,  portraits of children, terracotta plaques, bronze fruit and resin animal portraits.
